Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?. Genesis 3:11
Chapter 3 of Genesis gives us a look at the start of sin in the human race. Adam and Eve disobeyed God because they were tempted. The result was that they were separated from God's garden and eventually would physically die. Their action brought sin with its consequences into the lives of all their children right down to present day times. Disobedience was followed by other sins. Cain killed Abel his brother. And there were other sins that came into the lives of people. Chapter 5 shows the family line from Adam to Noah with the reoccurring phrase, "and he died." When Adam and Eve ate the fruit they died spiritually, and eventually died physically and that has happened to all the people who have lived except for two. One is Enoch who is here in Genesis 5 the other is Elijah in 2 Kings 2:11-12.
The Drawing
The circle for Creation is part of this segment, so we draw it again. Then we put a line from top to bottom in the middle. This line represents The Fall when Adam and Eve sinned and fell from their perfect state. Then we place three smaller circles or dots following the Creation/Fall circle. This stands for the genealogy - the family line.
An Activity
The Fall The Results of Sin - talk to the child of a time when you were a child and were disobedient to your parents and what result it brought into your life. Ask them to remember and talk about a time when they were disobedient to their parents and the result of that sin. There are always consequences to actions we do. If we do right there are good consequences. If we do wrong there are bad consequences. When Adam and Eve sinned, they had to leave the garden. When Cain killed Abel, he had to leave the area where his family lived. Sin even thought it can be forgiven, has bad consequences. We need to always obey Dad and Mom and God's Word.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:7-10

Genealogy - Tell the children of their family tree and have them draw out as far as they know in the family line. Show pictures of great grandparents and grandparents and mom and dad when they were children.

An Application - (So what does that mean to me today?)
God placed Adam and Eve in a wonderful garden. Everything was provided for them and their lives were wonderful, but sin messed that up. Sin broke the special relationship that they had with God. Sin does that in our lives today. It hurts the relationship we have with God and our parents. Help the children to understand sin and forgiveness.
