The Great Race
"The Great Race"
By: Carrie M. Greeson
The bottom line is I've been trying to come in first place in someone else's race instead of running my own. No one can run my race for me, nor do they get to decide what my first place looks like and if their race is different that does not make it more or less important than mine. I cannot blame anyone for me not coming in first place in my own race that responsibility is mine. The only time I would not come in first place in my own race is if I do
not respect the event or myself enough to put the work forth to accomplish it or if I quit before crossing the finish line after doing the work to train for it.
There will be times in my race that I will need nourishment or hydration from supporters on the sidelines and that is ok but it is not their fault if I don't like the flavor they offer nor can I blame them for not knowing my preference.
There will be times that I will pass others running their race or I will be passed by them. This is just part of participating in the "great race" called life. It happens. Neither event increases or decreases my value or worth. There will also be times I will come across fellow racers that are running the same race and at a similar pace. These are the special ones I can pace with, they will challenge me to keep my pace and continue moving forward.
There will be times I will have a flat...it is inevitable, this also will not decease my worth when it happens, the true test in that moment is not that it happened but how quickly I fix it and get back in the race and then avoid that spot in the road next time. Not everyone chooses to enter the race. Some are content to be on the sidelines. Again that is their choice and their value does not increase or decrease but they will miss the benefit of experiencing it themselves.
When I say I am an athlete in life it is because I have chosen to enter my race.
When I say I am passionate it is because the more true to my race I am and embrace the training for it the more alive I feel. When I say I am a fierce competitor it is because I take entering the race seriously and I am committed to the time and effort it takes to continue to improve and develop my talents in all areas.
When I say that I say that I am a warrior it is because I fight the negative thoughts from my enemy by praising and worshipping my Lord because our battle position is in worship.
When I say I am powerful it is because the Spirit of the Creator of the universe lives in me and greater is He who lives in me than he who lives in the world.
When I say that I am meek it is because I know that apart from my Lord I can do nothing.
When I say I will not be weary it is because I wait upon the Lord to renew my strength.
When I say I am determined it is because I will be true to my own race and not carried about with every wind of doctrine nor by the sleight of man.
He will render to each one according to his works: to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. . . Romans 2:6-7
