Information about the Picture
Tianmen Mountain is a mountain located within Tianmen Mountain National Park, Zhangjiajie, in northwestern Hunan Province, China. Tian Men Mountain literally translates to Heavenly Door Mountain. It is easy to understand why the name comes simply by looking at the mountain. The Heavenly Door is actually a naturally formed arch through a mountain. The entire Tianmenshan area is massive limestone deposit, caves naturally form here. In this case a hole in the mountain. The road to the mountain has 99 turns which vehicles must make to get to the lower platform of the Mountain. Then a person must climb 999 steps which lead up to the platform inside of the hole.
On September 25, 2011 Jeb Corliss glided through the 100 feet (30 m) wide archway in the mountain using a wing suit. The flight began from a helicopter at 6,000 feet (1,800 m), and ended with a safe landing on a nearby bridge. The video is below.
