Behind the Graphic
The devil is compared to a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, in the New Testament (1 Peter 5:8-9). Here in James, the way that the devil is overcome is easily understood. We must submit ourselves to the Lord as he has revealed himself in the Word of God and then resist (an active verb) the devil and his ways of pulling at us. If we submit and resist, the devil will leave until a more convenient time.
